We hope you will find this format for the official first day of school informative and beneficial. It is our mission to make you feel welcome and provide a smooth transition for all of our students. Enjoy the time you spend with us today and let us know if you need help in any way.

While you’re visiting the school today, here are the important things to do:
In the cafeteria
o Register with Educational Talent Search
o Set up food service
o Meet with a counselor to address any concerns
o Meet the activities coordinator
• Pick up information on clubs and sports
• Sign up for fall sports
• Order Middle School apparel
o Pay school fees
o Complete medication forms
In the library

In the 6th, 7th or 8th grade pods

Sixth Grade
First Day of School
Wednesday, September 1, 2010
Sixth grade is an exciting year of transition from elementary to middle school!
We look forward to having you join us at our Orientation Day on Tuesday, September 1.
On that day, you will be able to:
*meet your child's teachers
*hear brief descriptions of the core academic, music, and exploratory classes *have your child's school photo taken
*review how to use the family access program to monitor grades
*schedule your fall parent/teacher/student conference
*sign up to provide treats for one of our three parties during the year
*learn about field trips
You and your child should attend one of the sessions listed below.
Each session includes an hour in the Blue or Green Team pod and a half hour with the music and exploratory teachers in the Library. The times for the sessions are as follows:
Session 1: Blue or Green Team pod beginning at 8:00 and ending at 9:00 a.m. Library from 9:00 - 9:30 a.m.
Session 2: Blue or Green Team pod beginning at Noon and ending at 1:00 p.m. Library from 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Session 3: Blue or Green Team pod beginning at 2:30 and ending at 3:30 p.m.
Library from 3:30 - 4:00 p.m.

First Day of School 7th Grade
September 1, 2010
Dear Parents and Students,
The seventh grade teachers invite you to join us on our Orientation Day, Wednesday, September 1st, to find out what makes seventh grade at Menomonie Middle School so special. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child’s CARES teacher and to hear a brief presentation about each of our core academic classes. Staff will also be sharing what they feel are the keys to having a successful and positive school year. We hope you will be able to attend one of the presentations.
Formal presentations are scheduled for three times during the day: 9:00, 11:00, and 2:00. These presentations will last approximately an hour.
While you are at our school, you’ll also have the chance to:
• Complete the forms required by our school district
• Learn about using Family Access program
• View information about our music and encore programs
• Schedule your first parent conference (bring your calendar)
• Obtain teacher contact information
• Learn about the clubs, activities, and athletic programs offered, along with the Protective Factors
• Browse our Parent Resource Library
• Get field trip information
• Find out about our clothing guidelines
• Learn about adolescent brain development
• Ask questions
In addition, all seventh graders will have their school pictures taken on that day.

8th Grade First Day of School
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are pleased to welcome you and your child to the 8th grade, an important year in your child’s academic career. It is a year in which your child will gain the skills necessary for a successful transition to high school in 2011.
To kick off the 2010-11 school year, we invite you and your family to join us on Wednesday, September 1st for our Menomonie Middle School Orientation Day. The teachers and staff of the 8th grade will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During this time students will be able to have their pictures taken, move into their lockers, meet all of their 8th grade teachers and staff, fill out all school forms, pay fees, and receive information for each of their classes.
In addition, we have planned an 8th grade picnic between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for you and your family. There is no cost for this, and we encourage you to take the opportunity to join us for the picnic or for any other part of the day.
We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and plan for an exciting start to your son’s/daughter’s 8th grade year!
